5 Habits Of Highly Effective Entrepreneurs
While not by any means an exhaustive list, here are 5 habits that all successful entrepreneurs share…
1) They Are Action Takers
This first point is probably the most important one of all and is largely what separates those who get results from those who don’t. The people who get results are those who take action right away and don’t wait around until they have everything figured out to get moving.
It’s amazing how much faster you learn and how much more you get done if you just take action right away. If you learn something new, start implementing it the second you finish the tutorial.
Until you actually start taking those action steps, nothing happens. But when you do start moving, even if you don’t exactly know where you’re going yet, it gets easier to make course corrections. That’s how progress is made.
A lot of people freeze up and they don’t want to step out and do anything because things might look confusing and they’re not exactly sure what to do. But the only way to get clarity is to move to another spot. If you stay where you are, nothing will ever change.
Once you start moving forward, only then will those hazy details start to come into focus and things start making more sense.
“Do the thing and you shall have the power” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
2) They Are Consistent
It’s not necessarily just action that creates results, but consistent action. People seem to understand this concept a lot better in other aspects of life than they do in their home businesses for some reason.
For example, if you were to plant some tomato seeds in your garden, you wouldn’t expect to water them once and be done with it, waking up the next day to find fully grown tomato plants.
It would be obvious to anyone that you have to water them every day consistently for them to live. It’s the consistency that makes the difference. Well this principle is just as true in growing a home business. You have to give it your time and energy consistently or it just won’t grow.
I’m not exactly sure why, but a lot of people forget this principle when they start a home business. They may try something for a day, maybe a week, or maybe even a month, but if they don’t see enough visible results for their efforts, they often get discouraged and quit.
If you are working consistently, your business IS growing, whether you can see it right now or not. Sometimes it can be a bit like the Chinese Bamboo Tree, which shows no visible signs of growth for 5 years, then grows 90 feet in 5 weeks.
And if you think about it, what if it did take 5 or 10 years to build your dream, would that really be so long to wait? In 5 years, you’ll still be 5 years older regardless of what you do now. You can’t change that. So you might as well spend today building something that has the potential to make a real difference in your life. Honestly, what do you have to lose?
3) They Aren’t Emotionally Invested In Results
At the end of the day, your business is just a business. If you try some new strategy today and it doesn’t work out, don’t take it personally. It’s just business. Just make a note of what didn’t work and try something else.
So many people take every rejection and setback as a personal failure. As soon as someone says no to them, or they try some advertising that doesn’t work out, or whatever, they want to just completely throw in the towel. But if you remove your emotion from the situation, you’ll see that whatever’s bothering you is never as bad as it seems.
Don’t be emotionally invested in the outcome. Instead, focus on what you know you need to do to move your business forward. Concentrate on doing those things everyday and you can be confident that you will see the fruits of your efforts in due time.
4) They Work Their Business Like A Job
This is a big one. When you’re building your own business, there’s no one there telling you to get back to work or making sure you show up on time. It’s completely up to you to get things done.
If you’re not careful, it’s very easy to start developing habits that would get you fired at a real job. Things like showing up late, going home early, playing around on Facebook when you’re supposed to be working, etc.
Successful people know that, at least at first, they have to build their business like they’re working a job. Showing up every day, staying focused, working a scheduled set of hours and sticking to it. Bieng disciplined and treating their business with the respect it deserves. Treat your home business like it’s a million dollar business and it’ll pay you like one.
5) They Are Present Tense Thinkers
A common characteristic of those who struggle in life is that they often live with one foot firmly planted in the past and the other foot timidly tip-toeing in the future. This is an extremely defeating way to live because you can literally do absolutely nothing about the past or the future.
In fact, neither of those things even exist. The past and future are simply abstract concepts we’ve created to make sense of our reality.
The only thing that actually exists, the only thing that has ever existed and will ever exist, is the current moment. Right now. When this moment passes away and is replaced with the next, it will still be the present.
Successful people know this. The don’t let regret from the past or fear of the future infect the present moment. You can only focus on one thing at a time. And since the present is the only thing you can actually do anything about, doesn’t it make sense to focus all of your attention on that?
Learn from the past, plan for the future, but live in the now…
So that concludes this list of the 5 habits of highly effective entrepreneurs. Hopefully these tips will help you to develop your own success habits that will carry you on through to creating the lifestyle you’ve been working towards.
